Once Upon A Time In Malate

  1. I lived near that area. Is the owner of Lunar still alive? you forgot to mention the seamen who also frequent the place.

I know lavanderako too, although I used SeaBreeze at Adriatico-Faura when I lived there.

I boarded actually along San Bartolome. And before that in the boatshaped houses in front of INC along san marcelino. before that at Agoncillo.

I left that area in 2000, after 12 years. I used to drink at the third world cafe along nakpil when funds are high and at a beerhouse in mabini when poor.

Both are gone now I heard.

  2. Last Wednesday, January 15 2014, one of my sons was held up in Malate, in front of Cityland Condominium where he resides. The hold-upper was caught after her mother paid P1,500 to the Barangay official and P500 to the Precinct. Now the problem is, they were advised by the police to move out because they are being threatened by the relatives of the hold-upper. So they did. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

    1. That is absolutely not the way it’s supposed to be but — this is Manila! There are so many things rotten here, law enforcement for one. When the police says move out because they can’t protect you would you turn to inspirational quotes from books? This city is crumbling to fecals, we hadnt seen a good leader in decades. You have to be tough here and stay safe.

  3. ME TOO I MISS THOSE PLACES A LOT . A MAJOR PORTION OF MY LIFE IS THE MALATE AREA SPECIALLY THAT ANTHOLOGY BAR OWNED BY ONE OF THE COUNCILORS OF MANILA DENNIS ALCOREZA. THAT PLACE WHERE I MET SEVERAL LADIES WHICH I HAD VERY SPECIAL RELATIONS WITH. FROM THE TIME SIDEBAR AND ANTHOLOGY ARE GONE… ONLY THE REMAINING BARS ARE SEEN. COPACABANA IS ALSO GONE, DEMATESE IS NO LONGER IN EXISTENCE, ONLY BEDROCK IS STILL ALIVE..

  4. When I was still a student in the university, I used to work as a waiter at Hard Rock Cafe Malate. That was in 1987. Then, I was transferred to Hard Rock Cafe, at Sunvar Plaza, Makati, at the back of Makati Cinema Square in 1988. Stayed there till I graduated in 1990. I remember, our bosses where Mr. Johnny Borromeo, Mr. Boy Gatus and Ms. Goyet Ornopia.

It was really fun working there. Its like you are in a party on a daily basis, especially during the weekends.

Even though I already work in a bank during that time, continuously, I patronized HRC. Felt sad when they closed shop in the mid-1990s,
