What made me recall all these was a recent visit at the Nagcarlan Crypt in the province of Laguna where the underground tombs remind me of the movie Operation Daybreak. But before we go to the creepy part, we’ll see first what’s the big deal about this catacomb.
Sementeryo sa Ilalim ng Lupa ng Nagcarlan or the Nagcarlan Underground Cemetery is the only one of its kind in the Philippines. Built in 1845 under the supervision of Father Vicente Velloc, a Francescan missionary. And just like in the Daybreak assassins, this underground cemetery serves as the secret meeting grounds for the leaders of the Katipunan (Laguna chapter, that is) during the turbulent years of the Philippine Revolution. This underground cemetery is now considered as a national historical site. I guess that’s just about it. Now for the creepy part, click here.
