Divers and fishermen from Roxas Town in Palawan recently got a new source of extra income: collecting starfish. No, not like the one below. Im talking about the ugly Crown of Thorns starfish. In case you have no idea how unpleasant these species look like, check this out. It was reported that Palawan’s coral reefs are under heavy seige by these voracious starfish, thereby threatening not only fish production but tourist attraction as well. Local authorities are now offering a bounty of 2.00PHP for every crown of thorns. Some say one full day could give a haul of about 1, 000 starfish. Huge!
These are the harmless bat star basking underneath the waters of Sulu Sea. See more images from Palawan courtesy of my Kumareng Mavic, here.
